Change in Direction

Taking the intermittent blog in a new direction in hopes of having something interesting enough to write about.
No more politics! Well, at least not very much. And only tangentially. I am just too messy for the black and white world of political blogging. As a bohemian first and foremost, my politics is by definition the politics of ecstacy (thanks to Tim Leary).

What I am going to write about now will be more personal in the sense of personally interesting, music, art, food, culture, travel, myth, spirituality. You know, things that actually matter...

The Commander's top 5 fave restaurants he has been to in the world will be up soon.

For now, an ever so short comment about the D Chix and their new album, Taking the Long Way. There is way too much attention paid to them over their politics. There is one thing that should be emphasized:
The album is GREAT Music!!!

I can understand how they feel about country music fans and the CW industry in general. Last time I checked the great thing about America was the right to speak one's mind.
Certainly the fans and DJ's have a right to lash back. But it is somewhat ironic that they are lashing back precisely because the Chicks excercised their rights. And don't give me that BS about foreign wartime crap either.
So now, the Chicks are leaving CW. Bully for them. I love CW music, but it is exciting to watch a band evolve and take chances.
The Chicks are doing what the Beatles did all those years ago, after their huge pop success; and that is to transition to a wider audience and a newer sound. Country-based, but more than country, it's their own. This album marks a new direction for them, and hopefully, upcoming releases will be equally refreshing and intruiging!
