Kerry
I now support Kerry fully. I think he is right for the job, and has the makings of a damm good President. Great, even.
You know, when it comes to politics, you can't be too picky. There are plenty of things about FDR that aren't wonderful. Overall however, his legacy to everyone in this country was a very good one. His legacy produced the most educated swath of people ever, the most prosperous...the Middle Class!
Kerry is poised to be able to do much the same thing. He is like FDR in some regards:
Northeasterner, wealthy, patrician, liberal, tough, accomplished. FDR came to office facing enormous challenges, much like the next president will. FDR had the resolve and a few good people around him, a good circle of educated and elite.
I think Kerry is much the same, and can only be good for the country.
I have strong populist leanings, but I accept the historical fact that a number of great leaders have come from the wealthy northeast establishment. They are educated, brave and committed. They are trained for public service from youth. They are public minded, not selfish. While they may be exclusive, they recognize that building and maintaining a strong society only enhances their own wealth.
Kerry is all of this.
What's more, he is not an idiot.
